A cluster of Legionnaires’ disease in Harlem has now killed 2 people and infected at least 58.
The bacteria, Legionella pneumophila, thrives in warm water systems like cooling towers and hot tubs.
It spreads through inhaling contaminated water vapor, not person to person. The city found 11 towers with positive results and says remediation is done.
Symptoms include cough, chills, muscle aches, and fever. Health officials say it’s treatable with antibiotics if caught early.
