Teams need to be upfront in disclosing what token means for the project and stick to what they represent. DYOR works when there is sufficient disclosure but proper disclosures has not been the norm in the token space for the past few years.

It's up to the investor to do due diligence on what the token ownership entitles them to.
Holders are not "getting rugged" when the labs co gets bought and the token abandoned, they simply were the most junior part of the equity stack, and got zero'd out.
